Monthly Favourites: April 2018

Every month for the past 3-4 months, I have almost completely forgotten to do my monthly favourites post. I could put it down to just being a bit forgetful as a person, but I also think it has a lot to do with the fact that 2018 seems to be zooming by at the speed of a bullet and before I notice it, the month is over.

So here I am once again to share with you my highlights of the month!

visiting: alice¬†holt forest. OK, so it’s no Canada which was obviously my travel highlight of March, but going out into nature for a walk and just enjoying the fresh air and taking a few snaps on the way was a really nice way to spend a Saturday. Once the weather stops flip-flopping so much, I’m hoping to be able to do more of this sort of thing! We do have a New Forest trip planned for this weekend, but seeing as it’s a Bank Holiday it’s OBVIOUSLY going to piss down with rain so we’ll see.

watching parenthood: I mean, we’ve watched a lot of different TV shows this month but I am obsessed with Parenthood. There’s a really sad storyline at the moment that is a struggle to watch but it’s so well performed and just wonderful. Go watch it immediately. Sadly it’s not available to stream, so you’ll have to get a bit old school and get the DVD or BluRay but it’s well worth it.

picking up: my decoupage hobby! So it’s been way too long since I got stuck back into decoupage, but I started my new project this month which is a stegosaurus which is being covered in dinosaur print decopatch paper. I’ve called him The Steg and he’s almost complete!

wearing: slouchy hoodies and joggers. I got to wear shorts ONE DAY before the weather turned to shit again. I’m not surprised because April is pretty much always like this and tbh I don’t particularly mind because I’m all about that baggy, cosy life.

mostly eating: cupcakes. Not sure why, just have craved them a lot this month. Tesco does a vanilla cupcake mix for less than £2 and honestly, the cupcakes and icing are absolutely lush.

planning: business things. So my freelance business has been super slow since I got back from Canada because I’m only just working my way back into networking circles (which wasn’t helped by a bout of sickness last week where I had to cancel on 2 events) HOWEVER I am starting to pull together some exciting things that I hope are going to help the business grow so fingers crossed!

taking: time out. I took a day off this month to go see my mum, play with our dog Dexter and just relax. It was desperately needed and made me feel approximately 200% better.

switching up: my vlogging format! If you subscribe to me on Youtube, you may already know that I do vlogs about my life as a freelancer. I decided this month that I wanted to change up the format and instead of doing daily vlogging condensed into a weekly video, I am now covering 2-3 topics per week sharing my experiences, advice and tips for those who freelance already or are looking to take the leap. Go check out my most recent vlog for a better/fuller explanation plus some self-care tips!

celebrating: a year of counselling. OK so maybe celebrating is an odd choice of words? I didn’t buy a cake or anything. I think maybe reflecting on it makes more sense. I’ve come so far in the past 12 months in many ways, so I am patting myself on the back of making the decision to take control of my mental health.

That’s it for April! It’s been a quiet month overall where although things haven’t all been sunshine and rainbows, at least I can take away these highlights and be happy that despite the tough times, there are good times too.

What has made your April admirable?

Glad that you’ve been able to find the good moments in amongst the not so good moments. We all have months that are really really shit, and others that are great. It’s important to pick out the good bits and be thankful for them though, I think. Hope everything comes together for your business to grow *fingers crossed*

Thank you! OMG yes so true, finding the positives is super important. I’m hoping it picks up soon, it’s been really slow again recently since I got back from my holiday in March but fingers crossed for a brighter future soon!
