Monthly Favourites: January 2018

Crikey! It’s the first monthly favourites of 2018! I looked back in the ol’ archives and saw that my first monthly favourites post was from November 2014. Isn’t that mad?!

Anyway, January is usually a pretty sucky month because you have the post-Christmas slump and the month seems to last forever but we made it through alive and kicking so let’s all pat ourselves on the back.

But let’s not focus on how wet, cold and generally grim the month was… here’s the bits that were aces!

ringing in: the new year!  I’ll admit, I really wasn’t in the best place mentally at the very end of 2017, but was forced to get into the spirit with a few too many proseccos and New Year’s Eve ended up being a pretty fun night in the end. The less said about my hangover on New Year’s Day the better…

celebrating: our 8 year anniversary! Me and Liam have been together for EIGHT years you guys, that’s almost a decade! Unfortunately we both had to work during the day of our anniversary but as soon as we were done, we exchanged gifts and went out for a nice meal. He bought me a felt letter board (soz I’m a little late to catch that bandwagon), the La La Land Funko set of Mia and Sebastian and a Luke’s Diner mug from Gilmore Girls – and I love them all!

getting: client enquiries. So this started in early December and carried on into this month…people started coming out of the woodworks looking for help with their digital marketing and so January has been a month of client meetings and proposals. It’s a good sign that hopefully over the next few month’s I will be rather busy! Please keep your fingers crossed.

doing: some business planning. At the end of last year I wanted to finish off writing my business plan and sort my cashflow forecast to see where the business was at, but client work got in the way! It’s a great problem to have, but I am glad this month I managed to get back into dedicating time to strategy! Check out my recent post about writing your own freelance plan here.

visiting: my mum and Dexter! It is nice to be within about 40 minutes drive to visiting your family, and so at the end of the month I spent the weekend at home, which included a trip to a local cafe for that incredibly hot chocolate and cake you see above. The hot chocolate is made by melting good quality chocolate with hot milk and OMG SO GOOD.

going: pub lunchin’. As well as visiting home, one weekend me and Liam met my mum and Dexter for a pub lunch. Dexter was on his very best behaviour and everyone wanted to say hello. If you haven’t seen a photo of Dexter the doodle yet, look no further.

switching up: my insta game. OK, so I seem to be losing bloody followers on the daily, but I’ve decided to enjoy styling my grid instead and not feel the pressure to keep it updated regularly. I’m now trying out theming 3 photos at a time so each row is themed a certain way e.g. by colour tone, and I’m pretty chuffed with the results so far!

watching: prison break. Yeah I know, just a few years late! Liam bought season 1 from Amazon Prime and we blasted through it this month! The show is full of what we call “silly spanners” (a term coined when watching 24 for the first time), but it’s also so captivating!

being: obsessed with the greatest showman soundtrack. If you haven’t seen this movie yet, GO! I’ve seen it twice and I want to see it again. I listen to the soundtrack on a daily basis, which should tell you all you need to know about how good it is.

…and that’s it! So tell me, what made your January jumpin’?
