What a sexy blog post title. Gonna get all dem clicks.
But hey, it’s the TRUTH and I know flaky skin on the ol’ schnoz in particular is a pain point for my fellow dry and sensitive skin sufferers. It makes applying any makeup to your nose near impossible, and it makes people think you have a permanent cold.
Don’t worry, I got you.
For years I have searched high and low for a facial moisturiser to combat the flaky, dry face dilemma and finally I can report back that I was looking in all the wrong places. A moisturiser is not what I needed.
It was in fact, an “aqua boost essence lotion”. Nope, no idea what that means either but it’s my new fave thing.
More specifically, it’s The Body Shop Vitamin E Aqua Boost Essence Lotion. Try saying that three times fast after a cocktail or five.
The Body Shop describes this product as “a lightweight daily essence lotion to use as the 1st essential skincare step after cleansing. It plumps skin with moisture and BLAH BLAH BLAH”.
OK I added the last bit in myself, but it basically just goes into more about how its ingredients lock in moisture all day.
AND BY GOLLY THEY DO.
Soz about the hideously close up image here and all my MILLIONS of pores, but I wanted to show you what a difference just a small amount of this product makes.
Usually, the bridge and septum of my nose are dry and flaky central, but this photo was taken literally seconds after applying the product.
You can tell there’s no photoshopping here (except to get rid of a teensy bit of glare in my glasses) because my eye bags, shiny skin and pores are here to partay.
I’ve been using the product for a month or two now, but no word of a lie it worked from very first use and it still works just as effectively now.
Don’t you just love it when that happens?
The product has a watery consistency which makes it really light and doesn’t sit on your skin like HEY GIRRRRL I AIN’T EVER SINKING IN. Although it does create a little bit of shine, that can finally be dealt with by a powder without resulting in the flakiness making a comeback. Plus, there’s absolutely zero stickiness to this product.
I apply this lotion every morning after cleaning and before moisturising. I pair it with my hemp face protector before applying a spray primer and then my makeup.
I use quite a generous amount of the lotion as my skin is particularly dry, but it’s recommended to use 2-3 drops to cover your face. I go over the driest areas with some extra as well, just to be on the safe side. You should also apply it at night before bed which I remember to do approximately 20% of the time.
Ingredients wise, you’re not looking at a product that is 100% natural. It does have some impossible to pronounce chemicals in it, but it is cruelty-free so at least there’s a win there. It is slightly perfumed in the same scent as the rest of the Vitamin E range, but it’s barely noticeable and is in my humble opinion, a nice smell.
I’ll definitely be repurchasing this when I run out of it – it’s become a staple part of my routine.
