Cor blimey, gang! I don’t remember the last time I sat down and wrote a “catch up” post – and they are one of my faves to write too.
Anyway, what can I tell ya? Well, it will soon be my 3-month anniversary of being my own boss. 3 months feels like both a really long time and a really short time. Time has definitely gone quickly, but it feels like a lot has happened! I have work coming in dribs and drabs which is fine for the moment but I have all my fingers and toes crossed that the New Year is going to bring in more opportunities to work with more small businesses. Here’s hoping!
Otherwise, life is ticking on as per. I am trying to force myself to the gym at least twice a week in order to lose the weight I keep putting on from all the nice foods that just have to be eaten at this time of year (hello chocolate and hearty lunches) – not to mention all of the Costa billionaire’s hot chocolates I’ve been putting away.
I’m also trying to get a bit fitter for our ski trip in March next year because it is creeping ever nearer and at this rate I’ll be rolling down the mountains rather than skiing down them. It’s my very first skiing holiday which fills me with hella excitement but also AGH feelings because what if I actually hate skiing for longer periods of time than the limited amount I’ve done in a group ski lesson at the Snow Centre, and what if my legs give up because omg skiing hurts?!
Anyway, if buying all of the baselayers and clomping around in walking boots to try them out for size wasn’t enough to get me into the Christmassy spirit, there’s Spotify to provide the festive tunes and my awesome advent calendar to count down to the big day.
I am excited for Christmas this year, but I’m also a little bummed out because I haven’t been able to spoil my family as much as I’d like. Working for yourself is tough because you have to be super mindful with your money and for me that’s meant resisting the urge to splash out on big gifts for those that mean the most to me. Luckily they all know a frugal Christmas is in store, but it still feels a bit pants.
As I type this post, I’m almost there with the shopping. I have one more gift to get. I really struggled this year to find some nice wrapping paper that doesn’t require a bank loan to pay for – in the end I found a pack of 3 rolls of nice designs from Cath Kidston which actually worked out cheaper than everywhere else I looked! Our comically small Christmas tree is now up, so now it’s just the countdown to eating all of the pigs in blankets. Omnomnom.
Aside from the “C” word and all that it encompasses, I have been spending evenings watching Gilmore Girls with Liam (that is when we aren’t dragging ourselves out into the cold to go and see a movie at the cinema), and desperately trying to come up with new blog post ideas. How anyone manages with Blogmas I do not know. I salute you.
Also on the blog front, you may have noticed a few changes around here! You can read about that here if you haven’t done so already. I’d like to get a new design for the blog next year, but it feels like one of those unnecessary spends at the moment. I was lucky enough to win the new logo and branding package at a time I really needed it. I was so tired of the old logo especially but this new one feels v v me.
In other news, I have been practically living in chenille jumpers and wool socks, am in desperate need of a haircut, and am thanking The Body Shop gods for their Vitamin E sleeping mask and Aqua Boost Essence Lotion that are going some of the way to reduce the gross flakiness that this season inflicts upon my face.
Anyway – that’s probably enough rambling from me! I’d love to know what you guys have been up to lately – especially if you have a good ol’ catchup post to link in the comments!
