I’ve been a gym-goer since the beginning of the year and although I’m not the most consistent with my gym trips, I go a fair amount. Because of this there are certain things that really, really bother me when I do go along for a workout…
Those who work out together, probably stay together or some BS like that but I cringe whenever I see a couple at the gym. Why? Because the couples at my gym try and get two treadmills next to each other and will hover awkwardly and complain if they can’t do that. God forbid they have to work out “far” away from each other!
Gym couples also bother me because they will both go to the same strength training machine and while one works out, the other waits and then they swap. Not the end of the world if they weren’t chatting away taking up more time than necessary on the one piece of equipment you want to use next.
My final gripe with gym couples is about one particular couple at my gym who are all over each other when using the equipment. There’s not enough anti-bac spray and paper towels in the world to make me want to use that machine next.
We all know who I’m talking about. The groups of guys at the gym who are always there. Talking about their latest conquests or how much they can lift while hogging the machines in the process.
Not only that, but they also take so much longer on each machine as well. I genuinely don’t know if it’s a part of their work out to do about 100 sets on the leg press, or whether they’re doing it to spite me.
This might be a controversial statement to make, but at the gym you’re supposed to smell horrendous. Working out at the gym is the only time it’s truly acceptable and embraced in public to smell of body odour. So why do women wear really strong perfume?
I gagged the other day when doing a jog on the treadmill and a woman got onto the one next to me absolutely smothered in fancy perfume. Such a waste!
At the gym I go to, there are only a few changing room cubicles. Other wise, you just strip naked in front of everyone. Whatever floats your boat, but I prefer a cubicle. So, when someone dumps their bag in one of the cubicles, then buggers off to the shower, a red hot anger rises within me that almost leads me to chuck all their belongings out so I can go in.
In my mind, it’s just incredibly selfish. The gym staff seem to think so too, as they have “changing room etiquette” signs, clear as day on the lockers…but some people just choose to ignore them and those are the sorts of people I hate.
What bothers you at your gym?
