If you’re a Cath Kidston or Disney fan you’ll be well aware of the latest DisneyxCathKidston collaboration starring 101 Dalmatians. I am so, so on board with this. The prints are gorgeous, but my reasonings for being utterly obsessed with the range go beyond this. Let me explain…
When I was a kid, 101 Dalmatians was my absolute favourite Disney film. I loved it. Pure, complete joy was me watching the animated adventures of Pongo and Perdita and the 101 puppies escaping the clutches of the evil Cruella De Vil. So much so, that I insisted that one of our cats was called Roly, named after the puppy that was always after food!
One year, I went away for a few days to Brownie Camp. While I was toasting marshmallows and mashing them between two Digestives, my parents were beavering away at transforming my bedroom into a shrine of 101 Dalmatians. They even custom made a headboard as well as mounting and framing print outs of my favourite pups from the film!
JUST LOOK AT MY LITTLE FACE (and my jazzy floral co-ord).
I already had the 101 stuffed toys (and I think my collection grew quite a bit from then as well, including the Dottie TY Beanie Baby…don’t be too jealous), but now I also had a whole room filled with spots!
Just when I felt my childhood dreams had absolutely peaked, some years later we got our first living, breathing spotty dog in the form of Zoe! Zoe loved chasing cats and seagulls, lapping up the remnants of my Mum’s cups of tea and waiting to eat the leftover fried egg that my brother left on his breakfast plate. Nothing amused us more than the funny noises of satisfaction she would make when eating something yummy.
After some time, we wanted to get Zoe a spotty friend – so along came Domino! Domino was a liver (brown) spotted Dalmatian who was partial to following you around wherever you went, cuddling up as close as possible on the sofa and sniffing around for any crumbs you dropped. He was not the smartest cookie in the jar, but there was something endearing about it, which earned him the nickname ‘Dim’. They later became the parents of their own set of puppies, too!
Zoe and Domino both lived long and wonderful lives. They were thoroughly spoilt and incredibly loved.
Fast forward to now, at the age of 27 and the announcement of the DisneyxCathKidston range – my nostalgia levels were at about 1000% when I was browsing the preview online, and in a not at all subtle way, I mentioned the collection to Liam on multiple occasions, even going as far as sending the links to things that I wanted. I couldn’t afford to buy any of it really, so I was hopeful to get a few small bits to commemorate my nostalgic dreams.
But damn I was spoilt – and so, so grateful! Liam went all out and bought all the bits he could (some of my faves sold out really quickly!). Thank you, Liam!
What I think CK and Disney have done so well with this range is to combine elements of classic CK designs with the cuteness of the dogs in a way that isn’t too “kiddy”. I can 100% see me wearing the jumper anywhere and everywhere once the weather cools down a bit! I also can’t wait to use the stationary bits and purse, and if I could live in the PJ bottoms, I totally would.
What are your fave bits in the DisneyxCathKidston range?
