Guys. I can’t fit into my jeans properly any more. I kid you not, I had to unbutton one of my pairs of jeans whilst sat at my desk at work because it was digging in. I also have to unbutton the top button on my PJ bottoms. It has got real bad.
I think (I know) that the reason for this is because as soon as the days get colder and shorter, I’m all about the comfort binge food x 100. Full on binge-fests of carbs and chocolate. I know it’s all about the comfort, but it’s probably more about the convenience. Darker mornings and the darkest evenings just make me so, so drained of energy. Or lazy. Y’know, could be that.
I know I’m not alone in the “comfort binge”, and so I thought I’d share with you some easy peasy foods to replace the third mac n cheese you’ve had this week. On a side note: I had a mac n cheese the other day (which I usually love) and didn’t even enjoy it. Who am I AND WHAT HAVE I BECOME?
I can hear you groaning. Every Pinterest user and their cat knows about overnight oats, but honestly guys they are a great cure for the binge because they’re so darn filling and take all of about a minute to prepare.
I prepare mine the night before by layering 20g oats, half a tub of Muller Light in a lush fruity flavour, and then a layer of frozen berries into a small tupperware box. Repeat. Then pop it in the fridge overnight and BAM no need to bother making breakfast the next day because there it is in all its glory. Just don’t do what I do about 9 times out of 10 and forget to take it to work.
Slimming World Ready Meals & Microwave Veg
I shouldn’t really be condoning ready meals but shut up they aren’t all terrible really. Instead of that pizza with dough balls, pick up one of Slimming World’s ready meals (I recommend the meatballs and pasta, or beef ragu) – and also grab some microwave veg to pad out the plate. It may not seem like you want veggies, but you’ll feel 85394584989 times better for it than being in a dough coma.
Ribena Winter Spice
OK, this is totally not a food. So sue me. Ribena Winter Spice is a limited edition version of the drink and tbh it’s basically non-alcoholic mulled wine. It is sober-Winter in a glass. Drink it warm and drink it good. A great alternative to alcohol-bloat. And hangovers.
Prepared Fruit Pots
OH HERE SHE GOES AGAIN WITH THE FRUIT. I know, I know. Fruit isn’t warm and comforting like a pain au chocolate from Starbucks, but again you’ll feel much better for eating it. Save the hassle of expelling energy on cutting and preparing fruit by buying the handy pots from Tesco (other supermarkets are available).
Recently I’ve been trading in the chocolate (except advent, obv) for fruit instead and it’s definitely helped me feel less sluggish overall.
So there’s a few ideas to keep the comfort binge at bay. Any to add? Hit me up in the comments, yo.
